  25.             The IBM Supercomputing Program Data Base  is  a  listing  of
  26.             information  concerning  programs  that have been written or
  27.             converted to use IBM 3090  vector  or  parallel  processing.
  28.             The  data  base  is maintained by the Computer Center at the
  29.             University of Illinois at Chicago  with  support  from  IBM.
  30.             Data  provided for each program include the program's appli-
  31.             cation area, name, a  description,  the  environment   under
  32.             which  it  operates, the person to contact for more informa-
  33.             tion and the approximate cost for academic user.   The  pro-
  34.             grams  themselves  are  not available through the data base.
  35.             The data base is referred to as ``supersft'' for ``supercom-
  36.             puting software.''

  38.             _N_e_t_w_o_r_k _a_c_c_e_s_s

  40.             This data base is accessible to other  universities  through
  41.             BITNET  and  the Internet.  A LISTSERV virtual machine named
  42.             SUPERSFT has been established at UIC for easy  retrieval  of
  43.             the information.

  45.             _W_h_o _C_a_n _U_s_e _T_h_e _D_a_t_a_b_a_s_e

  47.             Access to the database is open to anyone with  a  BITNET  or
  48.             Internet  connection.   Access  to the programs described in
  49.             the database is controlled by their owners.

  52.             dance  with the copyright notice appearing at the front
  53.             of this guide.

  69.             Three files available through this LISTSERV provide informa-
  70.             tion  about  the data base, an index to the data base, and a
  71.             form for submission of information.  To receive these files,
  72.             issue the following commands from a VM system on BITNET:
  73.  
  74.                     tell listserv at uicvm get supersft help  [for the help file]
  75.                     tell listserv at uicvm get supersft index [for the index]
  76.                     tell listserv at uicvm get supersft form  [for the submission form]
  77.  
  78.             If you do  not  use  a  VM  system,  send  a  standard  note
  79.             addressed  to  ``listserv  at uicvm'' if you're on BITNET or
  80.             ``listserv@uicvm.cc.uic.edu'' if  you're  on  the  Internet.
  81.             The  note  should contain just the appropriate LISTSERV com-
  82.             mands, such as

  84.                     get [filename1 filetype1]
  85.                     get [filename2 filetype2]

  87.             substituting the names of the files of interest.

  89.             Submissions to the data base can be made  either  electroni-
  90.             cally or by mail.  The information submission form is in the
  91.             file named SUPERSFT FORM mentioned above.
